Question Purchase Opinion Requested

Does this seem like a reasonable truck?

https://www.autolist.com/ford-excurs...SU45P53ED68445

Not looking for a DD, just something to tow my travel trailer a few times a year.

Any thoughts or comments are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

$16,000 is a lot for a 18 year old vehicle. Especially considering it's one of those sketchy corner lots selling it. The 6.0 is a high maintenance and expensive motor too.

How big is your trailer? $16,000 should get you a newer gas truck depending on where you live. Look for a 2011 or newer 6.2 gasser. I would avoid the tritons unless you want odd timing issues.

If you went the Chevy route the 6.0 vortecs with the classic body style are very nice trucks. I wouldn't buy a the newer body style, which I think are 2008 or newer.

Question

Thanks.

Seems like the Excursions get a premium price. Maybe I'd be better off getting a pickup and throwing on a cap.

I still like the diesels. Something like this:

Thoughts?

The 6.4 diesel would be good to avoid. Very high maintenance engine.

There are very few 7.3 powerstrokes or 7.3 IDIs left in the rust belt. That leaves you with the 6.0 and the 6.7. The 6.0 is a good engine after $5,000 to $10,000 of work depending on who you ask. The 6.7 seems to be the way to go but they're expensive.

The Car Wizard recently put out a good video detailing the used diesel market.

The Wizard pretty much scared me away from Diesels. I guess I'll look at gassers:
