I found a 72 with perfect driprail trim and I was wondering if anyone here knows how to get it off without damaging it.
Also how do you get the chrome trim out of the way on a 71 (72 ?) grille so you can get at the screws that hold the grill in. I am talking the fancy grills, not the plane ones.
I meant the plastic grill inserts, not the grille surround. I have changed all that out on a couple of 72s but I found a 71 Ranger with chrome strips on the plastic grille inserts and I can't see how to get the chrome off so I can get at the screws. I even pried it off a broken grill to see how it was held on and I still can't see how to release it.
Hey I'm assuming you got this trim to put on a different truck. I have the same trim that I got from a specialty scrap yard. I paid too much for it, but it was in good condition. I'm dreading installing it on my truck, and damaging the trim and/or scratching up the paint. Be a good guinea pig and let us know how hard it is to reinstall!
Hey, I will do just that. It likely won't cost anything if I get it with some other stuff. Then I will try to put it on my 68 F-250 which I have decided to leave as a beater, and just buy a nice low mileage one. My "beater" will how ever be getting a/c and p/s and a brake upgrade to at least a power booster. I might also chiunk the 240 if I find a decent running 300 for cheap.
That chrome strip through the middle of the '71 grilles is essentially a spring clip. Grab it with both hands, thumbs up and fingers on the underside of the chrome piece and the thumbs on the plastic on the top side. Pull up with your fingers and it will clear the retaining clip. While holding it up over the retaining clips (at the same time), pull out with your thumbs. Snaps back in in reverse order.
