Distributor issues

Even I know that this is no good:

1966 240 inline 6.

Bare wires coming out of the distributor.

At a bare minimum I’d like to fix this and I’m looking for suggestions. It would be nice if I could remove and replace these wires, but they appear to be molded into a grommet and the igniter.

Wires molded in

Anyone know if this is original equipment? I’m not 100% just based on some other issues from previous owner. Not sure he dabbled with ignition system though.

Motorcraft stamp on other side.

Original 1966 was a points and condenser distributor.
That looks like a later model Duraspark distributor.
Do you have a picture of the box it plugs into?

A quick temp fix would be to clean the wires and put liquid electrical tape on them, for insulation.

Why not just replace the entire pickup coil?
