All right everyone I have a 86 Ford F-350 with the 7.5 460 big block I just recently rebuilt the Holley motorcraft carburetor put in a fuel pressure regulator which I recently realized I did not need new platinum spark plugs clean distributor points put new front intank fuel pump and flushed it redid vacuum lines and fuel hose. One day I drove the truck out to a job about 15 miles from my house truck died when I got to the first stoplight started back up and drove out to the job site just fine let it run for about 15 minutes while I put in a new horn shut it off for work and by 12:00 the truck would not stay running would have to turn the key over and pump on the gas pedal to get it to start then would run for about 30 seconds then abruptly die and sometimes sputter out slowly also just change the EGR valve and PCV valve really could use some advice I'm only 23 and I don't know much about old trucks
Welcome to FTE
I see 2 things that jump out to me "new platinum spark plugs clean distributor points".
Older motors and IGN systems were not made to run on new the platinum spark plugs so I would first change them out of old school copper plugs our motors can run on.
The other is clean distributor points? Can you take a picture of the points because around 74 most cars & trucks did not run points any more.
I just want to see what it was you did to see if that could be the cause is all.
Why did you change out the EGR valve? Was it stuck open and causing a problem? Most of the time the vacuum hose is pulled from it and the hose plugged and left that way.
The other is the valve is pulled and a tin can used as a block off so the valve will not work/ A EGR valve the hangs open can cause the motor to run ruff and stall.
Also go over all the vacuum line to make sure none fell off and you now have a vacuum leak. Also if you had any vacuum ports capped that they are still capped.
Recheck the carb adjustment as it may need a little more tweaking.
