Hey there. I recently received my 2021 F-250 CCLB 7.3 and I absolutely love the truck but I have discovered something rather annoying. When gassing up, I have to go super slow otherwise the pump handle “chunks” every few seconds. I figured maybe it was the station I frequently use so I tried another gas station and same issue. I’ve gassed up 4 times now at different stations and it’s been the same issue every time. The truck only has 1100 miles on it so I’m having the dealer take a look at it. Hopefully it’s an easy fix. Has anyone run into something similar and if so, what was the fix?
There is a screen that prevents siphoning out your gas. Perhaps there's a piece of trash in there blocking the filler neck. In the mean time try placing the nozzle in there just far enough so it doesn't fall out, no further. That might be a work around.
I have a 2020 7.3 CCLB. I have had this same issue multiple times, but not every time. It is a pain. Here in Oregon we have been deemed too dumb to pump our own gas safely so the poor gas attendant needs to stand there and deal with it when it keeps shutting off. If it is a busy station, I sit and wait...takes a while with a big tank when it keeps shutting off and the gas attendant is elsewhere. Be interested in what they tell you at the dealer.
I had this problem with a car. I had to slowly trickle fuel into it. Fill ups were taking forever so I finally took it in. There was a piece of fuel hose rubber that had fallen into the fill tube.
Don't jam the nozzle in so far. Pull it out a bit.
Not so easy to do that in California with the vapor recovery nozzles. I have the same problem with my 6.2. After enough fill ups I've learned which nozzles aren't so sensitive. Either that or I pull back on the vapor recovery boot and cheat the auto-shut off.

I wasn't aware they were still selling fuel in California. Crazy
My ‘19 6.2 does the same. I’m a lawn guy so I see frequent gas station stops. It was just a matter if learning how far and what angle to hold the nozzle at while filling, depends on the station. Annoying yea, but you get it figured out. My boat does the same thing, patience. Big brother wants to make sure you’re not going to spill any gasoline all over the place and cause the EPA to lose their collective minds.
Reminds me of one of my 1978 F150's...it had a flatbed on it, and the filler neck was pinched between the bed and the frame rail a little. I had to fill that one slow.
This is a longstanding problem with these trucks. I've used a suggestion from this forum when it happens. Rotate the nozzle 1/4 turn and pull it out slightly, don't have it jammed in as far as it will go.
I think it varies from pump to pump also. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I’ll try messing with the nozzle position a little more and maybe I’ll get lucky. I’ll report back if the dealer says anything too.
I too have this slow filling issue with my Ford trucks. My 16 was far worse than my 20 is. When so I have found it’s best to avoid a few local stations as they give me more trouble than others. It seems to the air in the tank can’t get out fast enough and it causes the auto off pump to trip.
