I want to paint the letters on my 56 tailgate. Does anyone know the font and the size, by any chance? I can make my own masks. I just need something to go by. Merry Christmas and thanks in advance!
I believe a decent sign painter can hand letter them. I think you might be able to do that too with some practice if you’re inclined.
On the 48-52 I don’t think the factory lettered them but I’ve seen a period photo on here that shows an early tailgate with painted letters. Maybe owners were doing that back then too? commercial vehicles? It does look nice painted up. Tempting to do it.
Abe is correct, hard rubber roller and thick paint. Same process that they use to paint license plates. In a non-production environment, masking tape and a rattle can work great.
I don’t know about pro in first pic I was fixing runs or bugs in the clear
It's like they say, it's not how you start it's how you end up. The pro is the guy who recognizes imperfections and corrects them...you got it dialed in.

I used fine line tape don’t remember the brand and small box cutter mostly too push the tape in tight small areas it’s been a few years ago. I didn’t want to cut the paint only one coat of clear before removing the masking then a few more coats of clear
