Question Cowl lacing kit not fitting... help!!!

I bought a 'Cowl Lacing Kit' from ***. I would have bought from here but I didn't find it on my search. Anyway, I got in and installed it and it doesn't fit. Some of the holes are off by about 1/2"!!!!!!!!! *damn them, by the way.* Does anyone know if these are supposed to be cut or something? Or does anyone know another place where I can buy one that actually fits so I can take this "lacing kit" and throw it back on *** 's door step with a friendly note attached??

I have a feeling we both bought our kits from ***. Mine was the same way when I got it. Ticks me off. It is also very wrinkley and looks like crap. If it is the same as mine was, one end of the strip has 2 prongs that are slightly closer than all of the other ones, and there is an extra prong. I managed to make the holes line up somewhat, and cut off that shorter end. Yeah, they are crummy. Need to do something about that. I bought the whole kit from them (***). On the way back from Indy Truck Bash, the 4 corners of the windshield weatherstrip blew off! There are 4 separate rubber corners on the windshield strip---they all blew off somewhere down I-75! Still going to complain to *** about that.

Yeah, I was pissed that I had to pay $15 for a lacing kit that probably only cost $2 to make, in the first place. And then I get it and it doesn't fit.... no, no.

whoa, I just bought a windshield gasket from them in the same package as the cowl lacing kit, that doesn't fit. My windshield has the chrome around it so if the rubber comes apart hopefully it won't fly off! No, seriously, *** pisses me off.

My advice on repro stuff is only buy it if Ford doesn't still offer it. Why do you think the OEM costs several times as much as the repro stuff right beside it in the same catalog? I have gotten several items from Mac's for my 64 car and it is all just cheapo. The new carpet I got less than a year ago has faded out real bad from the sun and the trunk weatherstrip is so mushy that I dare not direct the water hose toward it or the trunk will get all wet inside.

I got one of those cowl lacings too. I had to cut about an inch or two of one end to center it correctly, and then I had to move a couple of the clips. If you are careful, you can bend the sharp tabs that stab into the rubber, and then restab them, and bend down in the better spot. I got a funny feeling the clip locations were made for a later model ford truck. Either that, or the original designer was confused. BTW, I had to glue the extra 2 inch piece on the proper end with weatherstrip adhesive.. Naturally, after repeating hood operation, it gets slanted and doesn't properly align with the other piece... The cowl lacing I purchased was from Ford (NOS) and I had to trim it to fit correctly. I never could understand why it came this way - maybe the build pattern was designed to be universal for all size trucks of that era.

yeah me too ony twice

Yeah, I had the same problem with ***one, so just put it aside, and when I was at Super nats I bought one from Dennis Carpenter, AND IT DOESN"T WORK EITHER. IT has round pegs. I'm not sure, but I think DC has part numbers switched because 67's have rectangular openings not round holes. I looked in their on-line catalog and this seems to be the case. I ended up taking clips off the ***one and putting it on with some weather strip adhesive. Still not too happy about this and was going to call DC and talk to some one and ask if they actually had a 67 somewhere with round holes, becuase mine sure as heck doesn't have. Just one minor - but oh so typical - issue with the good ol' 67 being a one of a kind year in so many little ways.

Cacwby, my '67 has round holes...! I wonder if the different factories thoughout the country did stuff different. My dad suggested doing what NM5K did. Just take out the clips and re stab them. We'll see. If anything these companies should make them half a hole off SMALL that way you can stretch it real tight to fit. That way it not only looks good but its a good seal.

I bought mine from Dennis carpenters and it fit right but you have to be careful with em I screwed up 2 tabs on the first one so I bought another one for a total of 30 bucks on this tedious little item, But both fit perfect on my 70 crewcab with the rectangular holes. Part# DOTZ-16704-A for a 70-72 and the part# for 68-69 is C8TZ-16740-A and a 67 is listed C7TZ-16740-A all listing for 15 bucks. Also I have bought all my rubber items from DC and have been overly pleased with quality. I'm pretty sure most of motorhavens products are from DC but don't quote me.

- '67 round?

Well now I'm curious, how many others have round holes for cowl lacing and who has rectangular? I kind of figure I could make the round ones I got from DC work, by either drilling hole slightly, or taking an exacto knife to round peg and -getting to fit that way. The *** one is glued in now though-so not in a big hurry. And to rrawlins - the one everyone is ragging on, is a company whose name rhymes with Strong Rotor Co. (and unfortunately they do inhale pretty deeply)-my luck with them has been about 50/50, half the time it works out and half the time it doesn't.

Same here the *** lacing didn't fit my 70 either.I had to streach it in some places and it was loose in others. Worst than that the clips started rusting and stained the paint in about a week .What I did was remove all the clip and put 3M two sided tape on it.This also makes the rubber seal to the cowl so water don't go between it. Now if I could just remember to Quit raising the hood after I wash it before I dry it..
