Looking to order some seat foam for the 55., I notice there are different thickness offered.by MidFifty. They suggest the 2" for the 55. Would you agree with that? I'm not planning on any really long trips but I am a pretty big guy at 6'3" 260 So the truck is already not the most comfortable with the leg room! Any place better than MidFifty I should check with?
The Custom Cab seat frame was built differently than the Standard Cab frame, as far as I can tell. The Custom Cab seat was designed for foam. The Standard Cab seat was was designed for burlap and cotton batting.
I got the 2" foam for the seat bottom and seat back before my research showed me this. Both are too thick for my Standard Cab seat.
You can probably but foam locally that is thinner.
Also the foam that Ford used had holes on it. I've seen Custom Cab seats where the seat foam was tore open and one could see the holes.
Thanks for that info Abe! I guess I'll hold off ordering the foam then and wait and see when i tear mine down and see if i can figure out how much batting i need, maybe I could that with some 1" or 1/2"foam to firm a cushion.
I bought the MidFifty’s foam for my 56 custom cab. It was a bit too small to cover the frame. I ended up gluing extra foam on the MidFifties stuff and installing the covers. A couple years later I decided to change interior colors and took the seat to have it reupholstered. Money well spent and cheaper in the long run. Just sayin!

Thanks BJ, i have already purchased a custom seat cover so gotta make this work for the time being. I haven't had a chance to remove the cheap cover the PO put on it to see how bad everything is underneath so didn't realize foam was actually never used in the original. I hope to get on that right after Christmas i was just gonna get a jump and have the foam here now I'm thinking that might not be the best idea.
