Hey I’ve got a 1993 Ranger Splash with a Vulcan 3.0 V6, and a M5OD-R1 manual transmission. I recently did an intake manifold swap, by putting a 2000 Taurus 3.0 manifold on it for more power. I put it on with the original Taurus throttle body and a early Explorer 4.0 TPS sensor. I made a cold air intake for it because the stock air box didn’t fit anymore, but now it won’t run properly. It starts with the MAF sensor disconnected, stumbles when I rev it and try to drive it, and sometimes dies when it’s returning to idle. I’ve put about 4 different MAF sensors on it, and 2 different TPS sensors. It ran perfect before I did the swap, but yesterday I left the battery disconnected to reset the codes, now it doesn’t start at all whether the MAF is connected or not, and it sounds like it’s backfiring probably out the intake. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I’m going to run codes later today and update you guys
Was the engine warmed up to operating temp when you read those codes? If not you can ignore the temp sensor code as long as it is still present and connected. Is the engine temp sensor in the same place in the intake?
You need to put some distance between that hot air filter and the MAF meter, and use only the original meter for the truck.
Was the distributor disturbed during this work?
The engine was completely cold because I didn’t want to run it for too long when it was running bad
the engine temp sensor is in the lower intake, I only replaced the upper one. I’ve used a bunch of sensors off of similar year 3.0s from the junkyard, none worked properly. Nothing on the ignition was messed with
