I have a new to me 2018 6.2L XLT FX4 and my shocks are black but all the ones I see around are red. I do have the plow prep could that be why. Thanks in advance
Do they say FoMoCo on them or any other brand name? At some point they did swap shocks but not sure when. The "Rancho" branded shocks you see are Ford shocks and they bought rights from Rancho to brand them as such. Basically they are junk so it's possible the previous owner already replaced them. I replaced mine at 51k miles with Fox and it made a noticeable difference.

Not sure when Ford changed to the dark grey shocks but I think it was after the '17 model year. My '19 STX FX4 came with the dark grey shocks. I pulled them off at less then a thousand miles and replaced them with Rancho RS9000XL's. No snow plow prep on mine.

Actually, Tenneco made the shocks to Ford specs and branded them with the Rancho name. Tenneco is the parent company of Rancho, Monroe, Walker, and more. Tenneco is a big OEM supplier.
I have a 2020 F350...4500 miles. 3 of 4 shocks leaking. FX4 pack, shocks are black with FOMOCO on them. Changed to Bilstein 5600's/ Fronts are in, waiting for the rear ones ( on Back order ) due in mid Jan 2021
I put a ReadyLift leveling kit on at 200 miles and it came with the Bilstein shocks, So I have a set of the Ford OEM shocks with very low miles if anybody wants them
To the OP - My 2019 F-250 6.2L shocks look like this. Yours, too? I've no idea why they have the red and white spray paint on them unless it made it easier for the factory workers to grab the correct ones.

That info came straight from a Rancho rep on this forum. I know Ford didn't actually make the shocks.
