No, replacement is replacement, it is expected that you will use all replacement parts. If the cam was made with 4 degree offset and you used a 4 degree offset timing gear, that would put you at 8 degrees. With the aftermarket cams, they must work in all motors listed. So unless you have a cam specified for '72-'87 "carbed" motors it will be zero offset. If it is specified that way then it is best to call the maker and find out why. '68-'71 carbed motors and EFI motors do not use the offset timing gear so a cam must be made straight up to fit all motors.
