99-03 Superduty Cabs

I am potentially picking up a 2001 Crew Cab that the cab is damaged on with a low mile 7.3l.
I have a line on a 1999 cab from a gas motor truck. Does anyone know if Ford used the same cab and firewall setup or will I run into issues there?

Thanks!

All body components from 99-07 are identical regardless of what motor was installed. Interior components may be different.
08-10 cabs and boxes will bolt onto a 99-07 frame as well, again, interior components will be different. The entire front clip is different, I do not know what it would take to retrofit an '08-10 front clip to a '99-07 frame.

The only issue that I can see with the 99 gas cab is that in the diesel version the PCM sticks through the firewall. Is that opening there and sealed with a plastic plug? Or does it have to be created? (which is no big deal)

I've never personally compared, but I would presume it's there and just sealed off. Automakers don't like to make special stampings from one vehicle to another - dies of that size are VERY costly to make, so to make two different ones (even one with a changeable insert) would be frowned upon, even as prolific as these trucks were. It's much cheaper to have a plastic or rubber seal to cover the hole.

That said, you're correct, if it's not there all he'd have to do is take some careful measurements, mark the hole, and get busy with some kind of cutting device (my personal preference is a cut-off wheel and a die grinder).

Firewall of 04 with 6.0

The 7.3 firewall has a rectangular hole where the 3 round holes are....and in this picture the rectangular hole had a plastic plug in it.
