Increasing the signal strength on what, in most cases, is poor wi-fi, is just making bad stronger. Most campgrounds do not have good bandwidth which makes streaming or any other data-intensive activities iffy at best. We've stayed in a number of campgrounds which, on their check-in paperwork, state that the park wi-fi is only for checking email and reading the news.
If you want some in-depth information, you can research here:
I've been at two campgrounds where my camping spot had a lousy signal to the Wi-Fi and getting email was a challenge. I walked around and found the Wi-Fi antenna and stood next to it. Throughput still sucked, like it was connected through dial-up modem.
If it is just for picking up a signal we have the Winegard connect 2.0 and it is great for picking up a distant/weak signal. But a little bit more then what you are looking for.
I would suggest wireless radio, like a Ubiquiti NanoStation: https://www.ui.com/airmax/nanostationm/ paired with a small WiFi access point to keep in your camper(a cheap wireless router from Walmart will work if it has a "Wireless Access Point" mode). This allows you to connect to the park wireless with a radio that's a lot more powerful than the one in your laptop or phone. If you'd like suggestions on specific equipment, let me know; I do this for a living.
Agreed on most CG wifi less than useful. The last thing the CG operator wants is all their campers streaming Netflix on their dime. You are better off investing in a good 4G cell amplifier and using your phone as a hotspot. I am an IT guy, and worked this past year this way with no problems.
My home internet is similar to what is needed here. I use a cheap phone with Visible as the carrier ( $40/ unlimited including hotspot ), I broadcast the phones hotspot and have a TP Link WISP router pick it up and re broadcast it securely on a seperate network.. I think the router cost $20 on Ebay brand new.. A WISP router is what you would want as for one it's secure, but second your signal to your phone or device will be stronger.. The WISP router, you just give it an SSID and password and away you go
