Its been a while since I was on here once again I need a little help
I have an 82 f100 4.9 IL 6 I have been searching for a heat riser spring with no luck
so I'm thinking maybe of deleting the flap inside the exhaust or at the very least tie it open just don't know what effect this will have on the performance of my engine
Depending on where you live it could have a big effect or little to none.
It is there to heat the intake manifold just under the carb where they bolt together.
When it's cold out is when it should have the biggest effect.
Wire it open and see what happens.
Dave ----
well i knew what the faction of the flap was it does get cold where im at
as i was reading your post i was thinking of running a choke cable down to and using that in the winter time will just have to see how that goes
thank you for your response
I never thought of a choke cable to work the flapper
I am running EFI exh. manifolds and they don't have that flapper as the EFI dose not need it but my stock factory intake does so I have a plate bolted to the bottom of the intake with 2 nipples to run hot water through it before hitting the heater core.
Dave ----
If you want to get the stock aircleaner working with the hose going down to the exhaust manifold stove, that usually will be enough warm air when it's cold outside. Most engines need some sort of heat aid. Some of the engines I have had used headers with no provision for the heat riser and they did have a problem in cold damp weather. But the aircleaner heat stove would always fix the problem.

Dave brings up a good point and want to say how mine with the EFI manifolds is done.
As I said in the other post I have hot water to the bottom of the intake but the EFI manifolds just like headers dont have the tin to trap heat and have the air filter pull in warm air.
I do have the snorkel flapper hooked up to the temp switch and vacuum and the snorkel also has cold air from in front of the radiator support.
Last few mornings is has been upper 20's and it has run great. The truck is kept in the house garage so it is a little warmer when first start it up.
It is only maybe 2 miles from my door to the high way with 3 lights, I have to stop for 1 all the time, but never had any issues.
Dave ----
this is the dodad im looking for i think you both know that. but a picture is worth a thousand words
i do have the down tube that goes in to the breather i made an out of aluminum that fits over the manifold with a hole for the down tube to fit into as my truck sits now the flap is just bouncing around and i have trouble accelerating
thank you both for your help
