I just recently purchased a 1996 F-250 super cab short box, it has the 460 and auto trany. I am getting only about 8 mpg, is there somthing I can do to it to raise the mileage? it also has a 4 inch lift and 35" tires, I didn't expect excelent mielage but this was less than i thought it would be getting. any info would be appreciated.
Scott, I would never push a Chevy, I tow them around town all day long, hahaha.
anyhow, your truck will not get very good fuel mileage with the lift and tires, the higher you are the more air you have to move, the gearing change may help a little depending on what you have. You may want to do a plug test, and see how well the fuel is buring, look very closely at the spark plugs, if they are dark or even too white you may be out of specs.
Scott, I have the same truck in 4x4 with 4.10. Mine is stock except for the exhaust. I have a shell on it all year round. Around town with a lite foot I get 10, maybe 11MPG. On the highway at 60-70mph I get 10mpg. Now towing a 4500lb boat I get 7. It sounds to me like the lift kit and taller tires are causing your fuel economy to suffer. All bets are off when I lead foot it.. I'll get 8, maybe...
