Hopefully there is someone smarter than I, that can help me. I've searched the forums, but don't see my exact issue, but find plenty of issues with door switches in prior model years. 2020 f250 crew cab
My son was in the rear driver side seat and had the courtesy light on over his door. He got out and forgot to shut it off. I noticed when I locked the truck and that light was still on. So I unlocked the truck, opened the door, pushed the light button, closed the door and locked the truck. Looking back at the truck again, the light was still on. So, thinking I didn't hit the button all the way, again I unlocked the truck, opened the door, mashed the button and closed the door. Again locking the truck, the other lights went off but this one stayed on. So this time I opened the door and got in the truck, shut the door, mashed the button, opened the door, got out of the truck, closed the door, locked the truck and all the lights finally went off.
I played with this a few times and it seems the switch on the courtesy light only works with the door closed...... so if someone leaves a light on, I (or they) either have to get into the truck closing the door to turn it off or reach the switch from the front door.
Is this true or is there any other way I can turn the light off with the door open if someone leaves it on?
I’ll be interested if there is a better way as well. I have had to do the same thing. Open door, get in truck, close door, turn off the offending light, open door, get out, close door, and now light should be off. It’s quite the process, for something as simple as trying to turn off a forgotten overhead light.
not exactly as the OP in that thread, but some of the responders have / had my issue. my truck was off the entire time I was messing with the lights, the button didn’t work if the door was open. I kinda wish it had the old school click type button versus a soft touch button, but it sounds like from the responses that the light will time out / go out on its own after 15-20 minutes of being left on. Might test that tomorrow.
Welcome to the world of everything being controlled by the BCM, the switch is merely a request button. I dealt with this EXACT problem in my Explorer. My nephew had turned one of the rear lights on, and the only way it would actually shut off is by getting in the car, closing all the doors, then shutting the light off.
I had the exact same scenario when I first got the truck. Thought I was going crazy trying to figure out to get it turned off lol. I finally turned the truck on with the doors closed, saw what was still on, turned it off and viola...
