Tach Not Reading Wright

Tach Not Reading Wright
I just finished putting a 2001 powerstroke out of a van into my 1992 F250 4X4. I changed the intire harness from a 1997 F250 diesel, used the injector drive module from the 2001, had to cut and splice in the PCM. The truck runs perfect. The only snag is the tach reads low, can it be recalibrated ?
I would greatly apreaciate any input.
Thanks REVENATOR

First of all, congratulations! Sounds like quite a job. Why didn't you use the 2001 wiring harness? The 97 diesels are different than the 2001 diesels from what I'm told. I think the tach signal comes from the Cam Position Sensor. I think this because when mine failed....my tach didn't show anything when I cranked the engine. Just my thoughts though....I really have no idea.

The tach signal does indeed come from the CPS. If the RPM readings are wrong or nothing moves on the RPM meter, then your CPS is probably failing or has failed. Either get a new one or do whatever you have to in order to get a decent and accurate reading. The 1997 diesels are almost completely different from the 1999 or even 2001 engine. So you're probably better off using the 2001 harness instead of the 1997 harness. I don't know whatelse to tell you, but I hope this helps.
