More info on explorer rear axle

Didn't want to hijack a thread....I have a 97 explorer rear end for a future project. 3.55 open 8.8, disc brakes. I bought it because I figured I wouldn't be street racing, drag racing, or driving it in rain or snow. Just to coffee shop, or town on dry, sunny day, and it was cheaper than the 3.73 L. S. I see on numerous threads that the 3.73 limited slip is very popular with many forum members. Is there any reason i'm not aware of that I should go with a 3.73 limited slip since I do have the option of taking the 3.55 back? Thanks, larry

No reason...8.8 of any flavor is better than stock.

I probably can get away with an open rear end but the limited slip is the same price so I figure what the heck! Might come in handy

The possibility of cooler burnouts would be the main reason I suppose???

Better burnouts, YES! Anyone who watches Roadkill understands the importance of burnouts and how lame one wheel burnouts are.

If the past is any indicator, it will take me 6 or 7 years to finish this project. By that time i'll have forgotten what kind of rear end it is! Lol
