So. The stock non PI 5.4 engine in my 99 ford e350 just went feet up. I did a bunch of research, and I went ahead and ordered a reman pi head engine for the 99-2001 model e350s as the pi head change over was in late 99 for the e series (mine was unfortunately built in early 99). At least according to all the reading ive been doing the past few days. So I guess my question is, am I missing anything? According to what ive read, all that will need to change to 2000 model parts is the intake manifold, and possibly the timing cover. And I also read I will likely need a tune as well. Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I bought a 99 NPI out of an F250 for parts and possibly to install into my 01 F150 PI'd truck.
I ended up replacing the pistons on the NPI rods to 99 NPI specs gaining me some compression 10.5:1 instead of 9:1 or so.
The intake is different as you said, the throttle body was different as it elbowed to the ducting instead to straight out. Vacuum lines were a bit different, you may have to play with those a bit. But all in all it wasnt that much different. All you will have to do is related to the Intake and emission control hookups (vacuum lines and hoses).
