Strange Valve Guide

No 2 Exhaust valve let go and when I removed the intake manifold I found the valve keys, retainer and washer in good shape. Spring was streatched and the valve guide retainer in 3 pieces. I was able to slide the Valve Guide out into the valley and it was bell mouthed.
Question No 1:
Shoud I be able to slide the guide into the valley? Isnt there a lip on the block to prevent this?
Question No 2:
The Valve Guide does not look like any in the diagrams in the manual for pre '48 or post '49
Its about 1 1/2 inches in length with the groove for the retainer at the very bottom and the bottom opening for the valve is cut at an angle. How and where am I going to find the correct replacement?
Am I missing something or is this Valve Guide part of the variatons on Merc's for the additional 10 hp.
Thanks!
Larry

Q2. It appears that a good portion of your guide is missing. I think the mystery piece at lower right is part of the bottom of the guide. Check your oil pan for the rest of it. Also, the two piece spring retainer indicates a 1951 rotating valve system. The hole for the valve should go straight thru the guide - not at an angle. If it is angled, I'd say that engine ran quite a while with a broken guide and allowed the valve to flop around a bit.
You can find pictures/drawings in the shop manual.
Drove it to Miami from Ft. Lauderdale (approx 30 miles) and when I pulled in the garage is when I first heard it. Sounded like a washer or something was bouncing around in the valley.
The valve has always knocked since I had her, guess she finally gave way.
I do have a question tho - where were the fashion police when you were sandblasting the frame?
Thats as bad as some of the outfits I wear around the shop.........lol
