Dead 7.3

Driving my 2000 excursion today and it was about 1/8 tank on gauge and it started looping while at a wendy's drive thru. Thought it was maybe low of fuel. Made it to gas station and it went dead pulling in. Filled up and tried to crank and ran just a few seconds and died when I let off pedal. So I pulled filter and manually filled bowl tried again nothing. Also no oil pressure while cranking? Was working kinda jumping around while cranking. I put 1 gal in it but no luck. Spins over fast with HO starter and good batteries. I was trying to see how low it would go on diesel on miles left so I would know. Maybe needs more oil ? Never got a good reading on stick was hard to tell. Towed to shop will check oul level.in the morning and if low will add to HPOP itself also.

Any suggestions?

Thanks as always....Great site!!

The first and only time that happened to me, it was the same scenario, fuel at about 1/8, and barely made it to the gas station, very rough running for several miles till the air purged out of the fuel system, then ok. That was when I learned about the broken pick-up foot in the tank preventing fuel pick up till the very end. There are many write=ups about it and the well known "Hutch Mod" to prevent it in the future and improve the overall fuel pickup design. Me,,,, I just purchased a new fuel sender and pick up unit from my dealer and life has been great.

starting a 7.3 that has run out of fuel is a PITA, many a person has burned up a starter trying to get fuel to the injectors.

Back going again, filled oil pump up and turned over a few times and she cranked.... A little rough for a few minutes but cleared out. Let it idle for a while to warm up and changing oil and filter now. Is it possible for fuel to be in oil? Also how would it happen? it was very thin.

Fuel gets into the oil when a O-Ring around the around the injector goes bad,
also check your coolant, another issue is the injector cups that separates the injector from the coolant will leak and need replacing. Worth checking for since you will be replacing orings
