i was wondering what type/viscosity of oil you guys were using. i had been using 10w-30. recently had it changed and put in 5w-30. seems to tick less loudly on start up. i also purchased some slick50 to try. any body had any luck with other oil, or additives? a friend of mine told me to try that marvel mystery oil stuff to help the lifters? not sure about that, but i know its always good to keep the engine well lubricated. rick

I've favored regular Valvoline for years. Last year I switched to their new MaxLife 10-30W formulation despite being highly skeptical of their claims. (If you notice in their TV ads, the valve seals shown are ancient cork style which do dry out - so they can't be guilty of false advertising.)
Although I despise single incident, anecdotal evidence, I must report the long standing, cold engine valve tap has disappeared. This could be coincidence and just as likely, the tappet rod may burrowed its way into the rocker arm.
Perhaps its my imagination, but it seems my rear seal oil leak is less than it used to be as well. Since the seal is neoprene I can't really believe oil additives have any such magic effect. But, on the other hand, you can't argue with success.
Supersition or not, I keep using the stuff. Personally, I think it is not the oil, as they all meet manufactuers specs, but the frequency of change that is the critical factor.
Those wacky techno-nerds on the OIL & LUBRICATION forum go to extremes, sending off oil samples for chemical analysis and then debating ad nauseum the implications of such esoteric data.

As Aerocolorado said, change your oil frequently with any good 5/10w-30 API-SL compliant oil and you'll be ok.
Don't want to start any big brouhaha here, but ( just in my personal opinion) I would not put slick50 or any other additives in your vehicle. API-SL oil will be more than enough.
No need to add a questionable (and possibly harmful) teflon based oil addititive such as slick 50.
If you are really itching to use an aditive or are looking for advice on diff. brands of oil and viscosities I would suggest to go here www.bobistheoilguy.com to carefully research further on the topic if your engine truly needs an aditive before commiting to something you may regret in the future.
thanks for the info guys.i checked out that web site, quite the education. i guess i never thought we could add too much stuff to our oils, forgot about those cat. converters. seems like it would be a good idea to add anti wear additives to all our oil..provided you knew what it would do with the oil you had...food for thought anyway thanks! rick
