If this extra wattage mod that we're talking about is considered a "Mega Tune",I just found a place that will do it.That sounds like what it is to me,but like I said,I know nothing about CB's.
they are definately nice to have. On the antenna bracket, you will only use 1 side of it (if it's a mirror mount style), a good idea is to pick up some Anti-Seize at AutoZone or something, coat the threads of the antenna-coax connection. There is a good chance that they will rust together and you will have to cut them apart (if you ever need to change coax or antenna or whatever other reason you might need to unscrew them). Little $2 fix that will save a lot of headaches later (I had to learn the hard way!). I am headed out now...but if you have any other concerns or questions comments or anything else you can hit me at my Yahoo account...nightme_02@yahoo.com (or here!)...Good luck and make sure you have fun with it.
Thanks for all of your help nightme_02!You've been a great help. This bracket that I orded has a flat mounting surface with will affix to the top side of the bed in some form or fashion.I'll be able to tell more about it when I get it all in.Yeah,I thought about the Anti-Seize.I just didn't know if you could put that on electronics though. Now,I know lol.Man,this site is a great help ain't it!?
Well,I've had my CB installed for a couple of months and it works great.I love it!!On a good, clear night,I can get about 30-35 miles out sitting in my driveway. That's not too bad I don't think for a stock 4-watter and a 4.5' antenna.
I do have one problem though...
My Cobra came with 3 wires to connect.1 is the lead wire, the other wire is to be connected to a constant power source to activate the channel memory, and the other is the ground.I ran the ground out under the hood and placed it under one of the fender bolts. That works great. Now,the other 2,I connected those to the lead wire running to the fuse box in the truck from the battery. It gets power all of the time. This wasn't the best idea,I know, but it's all that I knew to do at the time. Now,my problem...When my truck is running,I get feedback through the radio from it.Is there any way to correct this?Is it because of the wire that I spliced into for the power wire on the CB?I run an SWR anywhere between 1.0-1.5,so that's not the problem. Is this normal for a CB?
BTW, if you would like to avoid the "redneck" look, a lot of reputable companies sell the "rubber duckie" antennas now, which are MUCH better looking than a whip with the tennis ball on it, and work ALMOST as well... Just my .02

Nothing like a skyscraper hanging off the side of a truck .
I like my whip.It doesn't have a tennis ball on it though .I got one in red to match my truck and it's mounted in the center of the front panel of the bed.I think it looks pretty kewl...
*IF* you really want power, try for an amateur FCC and you can sometimes hit internet based repeaters and physically talk to people in germany or UK on a handheld unit.
From what i understand, you ony need a amateur license since your wattage is at a set level and you work on a set freq range. Now the owner of the repeater has to have the advanced etc for working on other freqs. But again, based on useing an internet repeater, you only need the amat license for that.
