A deer caused $6000.00 in damages to my truck. Any recommendations for a good one that can withstand the impact of the deer. I've hit 2 deer in 2 weeks time.
A guy once told me the best way to not get shot in a gun fight was to not be there when it starts. You could also apply that analogy to deer. The best way to not hit a deer on the road is to not be there when it crosses the road.
Another vote for a Ranch Hand Legend full replacement. I have a Ranch Hand Summit on my '14 F150 that has saved the front end from a deer hit. Zero damage to either the truck or the bumper. My friend has a '19 Super Duty with a Legend that saved the front of his truck twice. I have a Ranch Hand Legend sitting in my garage for when my '21 finally shows up.
Be warned though, the powdercoating on Ranch Hand bumpers SUCKS. My '14's bumper was rusted after 1 winter. The Legend I just bought was on a '19 for 1 year and all the welds are rusting through the coating. I would highly suggest getting it blasted and Line-X'd to keep it looking nice.
Give the deer whistles a try. They are far from 100% effective, but they do help some. I use to drive by the Gettysburg, PA battlefields before sunrise on the way to work. The area is protected, and there are herds of what seem like a hundred deer there. Some mornings I would have to stand on the brakes several times, and sometimes even stop and honk my horn to get them out of the road. Installed a couple of sets of whistles, and saw a drop-off in encounters. Still had to stop sometimes, but in those cases where the deer bolts as you drive by, they usually jumped the other way instead of in front of me.
The only deer that could be on a grill would look like this:
OMG that sounds and looks great !
Have you tried that sauce ?? I have my gardens organic dried Sage.
Anyone in MA got an extra steak ?? Willing to swap or pay. I've not Hunted since 1993
I can't say anything bad about a Ranch Hand except they were back ordered in February when I ordered
my F-250 and still were when it landed in March
I went with a Westin, could not justify a full bumper, cost and the base unit is less weight then the Ranch Hand
I really like the rubber on the vertical bars https://www.westinautomotive.com/hdx...250-super-duty
Ranch Hand has been a solid choice for many years for that purpose exactly. I’ve had 1 full bumper replacement and 2 grills in the last 4 years and they all had ugly welds and pitting in the finish. Ranch Hand has lost some of its “attention to detail” but they’re units are still just as strong
I have a brush guard but it and really all brush guards are for accessory mounting, appearance, and low speed impact (think parking lot). You'll have to go full bumper replacement to get true protection for any serious impact.
I’ve got the Westin, as stated above... I wouldn’t trust this in a highway speed impact of a deer would just push back and probably cause more damage than good... I did hit a good size buck doing about 30 on gravel and did 0 damage with it, but not sure it would’ve done damage without.
