Does removing Cats from 95F150 302/AODE..

Hurt performance like a massive loss of low end torque? Also can you remove cats and smog equipment without causing the computer to go bezerk...When I say smog stuff I'm refering to the cats, smog pump,mostly.. Does removing the cats and replacing it with straight pipe give any performance gain? I don't live in an area with smog testing so I don't have to worry about that...

Please no tree huggers respond to this...

I'm guessing that it would be difficult for you to do because of the computer. You can, if you can find someone to do it, reprogram your computer with your modifications. This will normally run $600-$700 if you can find anyone. Most are hesitant to re-program since many of the smog laws are national not local, they are only enforced on a local basis through local inspections. States like CA then add their own requirements on top of the federal mandates.

Now, about performance...The cats in the vehicles today from what I read are pretty much hi-flow and will not rob power unless they become plugged. I've taken apart the smog pump on my old '82 before and the way they are built has got to rob some horses. On my old, non-computerized, carburated '82 351W, I removed the smog pump and carbon can and the associated vacuum equipment. I also restricted the EGR valve to only open at 190 degrees or higher and when it does, I put in the small orifices so that it will only recirculate a small amount of vapor. It runs great and I still pass the sniffer test with ease (I keep it tuned!!!), I just wouldn't pass the visual inspection if the inspector chose to take a look under the hood. I also kept my cats (put on two new DynoMax 12" long cats in my dual exhaust).

I have true duals on my 1989 F-150, and the only problem so far is during WOT, the "check engine" light will comeon and then go away. I really don't know why, but it's not a big problem.

Pastmaster's 1993 XLT 5.0 E40d 3.55LS Normal Cab/Long bed Loaded from the factory with aid of...MSd 6a ign/s.p. wires, blaster coil, Hypertech Chip, K&N filtercharger, Cat-back dual exhuast w/o mufflers, 3.5", echo tips, Accel distributor cap, Dark Mocha over light mocha. 5% Dark tint, Alpine Cd player/remote, Pioneer speakers.

Did you use headers? Where they shorties or long tubes?

How did you do you dual setup? Did you use headers? Shorties or longtubes.. Did you notice and HP gain? How about a low end torque loss?

What's the deal with this 93? Do you have two trucks? Of just a typo? Did you notice any power improvements or gas mileage increase?
