That is *mostly* true; but when an obstacle is on a rural highway (that used to be in the Fed. Highway system) that runs right next to an Interstate, it may not show up. This is one example
The pictured bridge is just used by local fishermen and farmers and ranchers. This road at one time was U.S. highway 89 and is right adjacent to I-15 that gets the traffic. It doesn’t bother until one wants to use a nice campground a couple miles downstream from it. And I have not found it in a database yet.
Thank you. When I saw the above bridge, I thought to self “Slow and easy’ stop when real close, get out and look, then proceed slowly! Don’t need a bump or bounce at just the wrong moment on this one and ruin my fishing trip.
That is the Hardy Bridge across the Missouri River above Cascade, MT. Prewitt creek RV park and campground was just a couple miles down stream from the bridge.............fishing was great too! And they had plenty of room for my 41’ 5er.
We had s big 5th wheel and now loving a LARGE slide in camper, an Eagle Cap 1200.
We can camp just about anywhere and have just about everything a 5th wheel has, just don't have to walk as far to get to it.
It's not for everyone, but we love it.
We never make reservations and can be totally spontaneous.
like I said it might not be right for you. But there are a lot of people going smaller now
We sold our toy hauler for an Arctic Fox 811 truck camper and couldn't be happier. No reservations and camp pretty much where we want. Best decision ever. Has everything we need including a shower, solar and we can still tow the utv

I tried all kinds of trucking and rv mapping programs, ones I could get on Apples App store, and only 1 showed a low overpass on a route we tried to take that is 12' 10". Fortunately, we saw the 12' 10" warning sign about 1/2 mile before the overpass.
99, Good Afternoon.....beginning my research for the optimal 5th wheel length (minus truck length) that will be accepted by most US sites when I retire from my second job. I'm retired Navy, I have a 2020 F450 Limited with a 32.5K 5th wheel hitch. I've been around the world geographically twice and now want to see my own beautiful country. What is the best 5th wheel length (minus truck length) that 90+% most sites will accept.
In 5 years it will be time to visit my own beautiful country.
My wife and I purchased our first 5th wheel RV in May. We had used a cargo trailer, that we hauled our motorcycles with, and then we converted to a camper for sleeping. The toy hauler we bought is 39 foot, and we have found that most campgrounds are compatible with this length. We have had some close calls with the length in dragging in the rear when we go thru dips in a few of the campgrounds.
Personally, I don't think I will ever go over the 40' length. We have been on the road over 3 of the 6 months that we have owned it, stayed in over 15 camp grounds, but still call ourselves newbees. There are several youtube sites / blogs that give you a lot of info on this subject, and that has been very helpful. The best thing to do, is just call a campground before you book it, and make sure they are big rig friendly, and that they will put you into a site that fits your rig. If the site asks about your length, be honest and use the right footage. It should filter out what your rig can get into. RV Parky and TheDirt are good apps that will help find and filter out available campgrounds and sites.
BTW ........ thank you for your service to our country!

I did not know campers like that existed! That is awesome! But, at almost 5k dry, what do you have it on? Anyway, congrats on the very nice camper. That's luxury no matter how you slice it.
