I do not have the key for the locking gas cap on my F100, is there a way to remove it without destroying it ?

You could try to pick it, not really that hard if you have some patience.

You need a flat piece of spring steel that is the width of the key slot, bend it so that a small portion of the flat fit in the slot with the other end bent so that you can exert torque (spin) in the "unlocking" direction. With light unlocking pressure on that spring, insert a fine wire or other pick into the lock and sort of massage the tumblers up into their slots. You should be able to tell the tumblers line up and the whole lock should turn open after a bit of work.

If you've ever had a lock torn open you will know what I'm talking about.

Now go give it a try and forget who told you about this.

Usually the keys for these things are not complex and you can luck out using another key in them some times. At least I lucked out on 2 occasions. I had a truck bed cap that didn't have a key so I tried some old keys and I found one that actually worked.

And another time I was able to use a different key to open a locking gas cap.
