Talk to me about warranties
Is several options. After having the trouble ive had with the dodge I got now (2014 3500 6.7 80k miles) its shown me warranty can be invaluable. Im looking at putting the 96 month 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty on this truck when it comes in about January. Think its about 3200$. Whats yalls take on warranty. Thanks

I don’t pay for extended warranties. I trade in my truck shortly after the standard warranty expires. I typically don’t drive a lot of miles , so I tend trade in every 3 years or so. I just figure that I can take the money that I could have spent on an extended warranty and use it to help pay for a new truck.

We drive our trucks until the wheels fall off, so to speak. This is only the second brand new truck we have ever purchased, and the first vehicle we have ever ordered. With all the electronic gadgets and sensors, etc that the new trucks have on them, we did buy the extended warranty. Got it through the dealer, we get 5 years, 100,000 miles, for about $2900. Our thought process behind it is, it won't take long to eat up that $2900 with the price of parts these days. We pay for the maintenance, warranty pays for the breakdown.

I guess one way to look at it though, is that the ext warranty cost can be added to payments and the repairs, if necessary, can’t. And since I am old, and definitely old school, my personal view is that if I can’t afford the cost of repairs, maybe I can’t afford the vehicle either. But, that is for me, and just my opinion.

Substitute the word "warranty" with the word "insurance". Because that's what a warranty is. Insurance transfers risk. If you are risk-averse, then you are a customer for insurance. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that. We're all different. We arrive at our decisions though whatever life experiences and beliefs occupy our thought processes. There are very rational reasons to load up with insurance and just as many to take on the risk yourself. Sure, Ford, or whoever, makes money of these warranties, which clearly suggests the warranty is not guaranteed to benefit you. Not because your claim will be rejected, but because the odds are that you will not have any repairs that eclipse the cost of the warranty.

I typically put 30,000 miles a year on my trucks. So unless an extended warranty adds a LOT of extra miles to my warranty. Having extra months means nothing to me.
Because of that, I've never bought an extended warranty.
If those warranties cost $3000 per truck, I've saved on my 2000, 2003. 2006, 2011, 2015 and now my 2017 I have now saved $18,000 which allows me to self warranty.
Maybe I've just had good luck with my trucks. But my expenses with Ford Superduties has mostly been Brakes, Shocks, and batteries

Did you get it when you bought the truck or wait till the factory warranty was about to expire?
