2020+ Glow cycle?

Is there still a glow cycle with the newer 2020/2021 diesels? Every time I went to test drive a truck I either had to pushed the button or turned the key and either way the truck started with no wait time? Even in the summer my '99 Diesel Suburban needs a glow cycle before starting.

The plugs do cycle, the are rapid heat plugs. The computer takes care of it all and will delay the start cycle if needed. Even in 0 degree weather the trucks start fine.

In the cooler days we had so far in Missouri, it's been get in, step on brake, hit button, short delay (enough to make you think you missed the button), then crank and run. It's all computer controlled.

The glow plugs on the 6.7L engines go from ambient temp to 1200° in 2 seconds.
So for most 30-40° days, The start is almost instant. If it's subZero temps, You might see the 2 second delay.

I ordered the truck but didn't get the Plug in Engine Block Heater. Used the one in my Diesel Suburban once in 20yrs of ownership. Guess I don't need to try and add this to the order. Thanks

I can feel the delay between the 2020 and the last truck a 2011. The 2011 actually started about a second or two quicker.

Never noticed much if any delay on my 2011 6.7, even on some pretty cold days (-10°F / parked for 10 hours). Well, cold for us anyhow. Haven't had the 2020 long enough to notice.

Does anyone know if the Plug in Engine Block Heater is screwed into the block drain plug? I'm guessing IF for some reason I'm going to start to need to plug this truck in it's an option pretty easy to add?

last information on the 6.7 the heater is installed on all engines. Only thing you get with ordering with is the plug, so see no reason one could not just purchase the plug and install.

Nope, unless ordered there is just a plug in the block on 6.7 engines. Look above the starter for the plug.

Go look, the 6.7 doesn't come standard with the heater installed. This isn't new, go to post 37 for pictures of the plug.

I just got a call from the sales guy at my dealership. He said when he asked his manager if it could be added afterwards if needed the manager said not to worry. He said he's throwing it in free of charge. Guess I'll have to wait till it's delivered to see if it includes the cord. This is the first vehicle I'm buying from this dealership and every time I've stopped in to check out the trucks, have any questions or even with my ordering this place has done things right.

OP, What state in this truck being ordered/purchased in? There is a list of cold climate states where the block heater is actually standard equipment. This is not to say it is free, I'm sure it is rolled into the price somewhere.

As for it being on all 6.7s, and the option is just do you get the power cord. These trucks are built by a company run by bean counters. They are not going to put an part on every engine, and only use it on a few, when there is a much cheaper part (plug) that can be used on most.
