Chances are 7.7 didn't come out. I'd go 7.5, check it the next day. Over capacity leads to bad things too. Personally I'd rather put 7 in and check the next day. After you get a baseline, you'll be good going forward.

I have the same engine and year F150 as you.

I’ve always changed my oil myself and I never just use 8 quarts.

I really don’t think you’d hurt anything by using 8 quarts but I wouldn’t make it a habit.

I always use the 7.7 and when I drain my oil, I always but the front of my truck on ramps and let oil drain until it’s not even dripping out of the oil pan and then I remove the filter and let them same thing happen.

For calculations sake, 7.7 quarts is ALMOST 2 gallons (1.925 gallons). If poring your oil into two 1 gallon containers is easier for you to measure, I would be much more comfortable with over filling by 0.025 gallons (0.1 quart).

The others above ^^^^^^^ have very prudent advice and I don't disagree with it, however, if it were me I'd happily add the extra 3.9% (0.3qt) and never worry about it. An extra half quart (6.5%) I might worry a little, and an extra quart or more (13.0%+) I'd drain the excess. 3.9% I wouldn't worry about. They leave a little room so they don't have a bunch of ruined engines from oil change shops that get in a hurry at the sacrifice of accuracy while going slightly over.

Some in-between advice: See where it ends up on the dipstick after refilling with 7.7 quarts and then running it a few minutes. If there's a tiny bit of room at the top, or even if it is very exactly on full, I personally wouldn't hesitate adding only 0.3 quarts, even on a 5-quart engine.

My $0.02 .

Ditto.
Or I was going to suggest next oil change put 7.7 qts in, run it, let it sit overnight, pull the dipstick and take a picture of it.

Then add the other 0.3 qts, run it, let it sit overnight, pull the dipstick and take a picture of it.

Can you see any difference in the two pictures?

Dump 8 quarts and move on. Life is far to short to measure fractions of a quart. Besides realize the stock pan holds almost 11 quarts before the oil is near the crank. Lots of Mustang guys run 10 quarts on the track.
