I know this is weird, and could not explain it until my girlfriend made a reference to it this weekend. Since I purchased the truck, I have had a touch of motion sickness whenever I drive it. I chalked it up to the new car smell. But this weekend, my girlfriend expressed the same feeling as a passenger. She said it was because she was was paying particular attention to the two-level sideview mirrors. And then it clicked. I have been using my mirrors more than normal. My 150, has a single lens on either side. Am I drinking the goofy juice, or has anybody else experienced this?
You're not crazy - I've been experiencing that same phenomenon. I need to be very deliberate to focus on one mirror at a time as I'm cycling through them while driving. I've also noticed that the magnification between my top driver-side mirror, the rear view mirror, and top passenger-side mirror are all different. I'll be passing someone on the highway and think I'm clear based on my rear view mirror. I'll then check the top passenger-side mirror and the vehicle will seem a lot closer than I expected it to be. Until I got used to it, I thought cars were speeding up to not let me pass them.
Great I can cancel the appointment with the shrink. I thought I was going crazy. Thanks man....... It is the different magnification that is driving me crazy. Appreciate the feedback guys. I used to only get motion sickness when I read in a car. Maybe it is all the electronics in the car too. Forget about the phone..... man these consoles are crazy.
I seem to always focus on the bottom of the side mirrors. Which is not the one I want.
my 2006 had same mirrors but bottom was smaller.
No motion Sickness though
I avoid motion sickness by not using the mirrors. I'm bigger than most other vehicles, so I just go where I want without worrying about other people!!!!
"And now my friend, the firsta rule of Italian driving: Whats'a behind me is not important!" (As he breaks the rear-view mirror off and tosses it behind.) from Movie: The Gumball Rally (1976)
Seriously though, I love the mirrors on the Super Duty. So much better than what was on the last 3/4 ton Suburban I had years ago. Maybe don't be in a hurry to cancel that appointment. Also, maybe adjusting the mirrors would help.
Drove an F350 commercially for the better part of 3 years. We're talking 8 - 10 hours in the truck. The mirrors never bothered me. I find myself still using the convex mirror over the flat mirror. Set your flat mirrors out just to the point that you can't see the truck. Then if you do need to use the flat mirror, all you need to do is lean a little bit. You'll be amazed how much more you see.
I guess I should have clarified. I love what I can see. My mirrors are set perfect. I am sure everybody has their own way of setting what they like using whatever they prefer as a reference point. Just like I cannot read in a car, we are all built different. Humans have a lot lower build tolerances than our trucks. Thanks for the feedback........
No. But—my chrome cap has a way of reflecting things that catch my eye. I don’t like how the chrome wraps around and reflects back like a mirror, but from a different direction. I’ve thought about putting a little bit of a wrap on it to help. Luckily, that chrome has stayed dirty enough lately that I don’t have this problem.
i like the split mirror design. but it's what i learned to drive on with my titan. However, the top mirror has a weird reflection where the trailer looks crooked when your backing up. i noticed it when i back a trailer down my driveway next to the house. trailer looks crooked so I adjust then suddenly it's angled into the house lol.
One possibility to consider is you may have some defective glass somewhere that could be causing eye strain or blurred vision which can cause motion sickness. I had a 2009 F-150 I bought new and I always got motion sickness driving it. Same thing happened to passengers as well. While outside the truck one day I noticed that when I looked at the windshield from the side you could clearly see that it had a noticeable wavy look to it. Drove to a local SafeLite and had them check the windshield for any defects and they said it was definitely not an illusion and the glass was not produced correctly. Ford ended up paying SafeLite to replace the windshield with an OEM replacement and I never had any issues after that.
