tailgate step

How does yours work? On my '20 you press the button then have to stick your finger in the hole where the button is and pull it out. I have lubed it and still hard to work. On a previous truck you press the button and it popped out an inch or so

On my 2020 I press the button and it pops out. Yours might be missing a spring.

Should pop out. Wonder if the spring is bound up or if they forgot the spring during assembly.

Thanks. I will put it on my list. So far this is all I have found wrong with it. Well I take that back. I was towing the other day and tried to put it in tow/haul mode and nothing happened as I tried to toggle between the modes. Only did it once of course..

Mine pops out, too easily sometimes, lean on the tailgate to put something in, go to close it and it has popped out a bit and hits the tonneau cover edge so tailgate won’t close.

This is the first I’m realizing it’s supposed to pop out.

I even perfected the technique of letting that button snag my winter gloves and pulling on the gloves to open it.

The tailgate step on my 19 F150 popped out when you pressed the button, on my 20 F350 it just sat there and I had to pull it out. I was going to have the dealer look at it when I take it in for a couple other things, but it was just annoying me. After reading online and seeing the it may just be a simple adjustment, I took out the 4 torx bolts and felt the step drop down just a hair. Gave it a try and it now works without an issue. Just put the torx bolts back in and all is good now.

You you could try loosening the 4 torx bolts a little and then test the step to see if that fixes it. Then just re-tighten the torx. Be careful with the two regular nuts that are on the brackets, they just go to loose bolts. If you loosen those too much, you may need to remove the access panel to get them tight again.
