Fuel tank patch?
I will be buying the Ranger in my sig as soon as I can come up with the $500 the PO is asking. It has sat in the apartment complex's parking lot ever since I moved in 4 years ago. It belongs to a Comcast contractor who used it as his work truck until Comcast let him use one of their vans. When first asked about buying it 4 years ago, the price was $1,500. I talked to him last week and he says he will sell it to me for $500 because some jerk poked a hole in his gas tank, (I'm guessing to get the gas out, or maybe the PO made an enemy) and he is too busy to replace it himself. There are other things wrong with it as well, but the big issue is the hole in the tank. Anyway, if he were to replace it, he would charge more. I told him not to fix it, I will buy it as is, and get it done myself. Anyway, my question is would it be possible to just patch up the hole with something like the Flex Steel stuff that is constantly advertised on TV, or should I just buy a new gas tank. Obviously, I would rather patch it as that would be the easiest, as replacing it will be something I cannot do myself. I am disabled, and unable to crawl under vehicles anymore. I can still do limited engine work involving anything on top of, or in front of the engine, but anything that requires crawling under the vehicle will mean I have to pay someone to do it, and I am on a fixed income, so it may take a month or two of savings (depending on the cost of the job) to get enough money.
On a slightly different note, I checked LMCTruck.com and they have gas tanks for the 83-88 Ranger, and 93-98 Rangers, but nothing for the 89-92 Ranger. Interesting. Same with hoods, they carry the 83-88 hood, and 93 and later, but not 89-92. I find that very irritating. I was able to find a gas tank at Autozone though, but if patching the one in it is feasible, I will go that route.
