Looking for some tailgate pics

I have a mismatched tailgate that I want to have painted in my truck's colors, but I don't have the trim or FORD insert for the tailgate and, since I live in Germany, it will be too expensive to buy the pieces and have them shipped over here. I've decided to paint the FORD lettering, but I am not sure if I should paint them white or black. White would show up better on the dark blue that the tailgate will be painted, but I only have black accented trim and wheels so I think black would fit better. Does anybody have a pic with painted lettering (white or black...I really want to see black) on a darkly painted tailgate? The Beast goes for paint this Friday so I need to make a decision soon. Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated. OR should I just leave it the same dark blue? Decisions, decisions, decisions!

They sell 73-79 FORD tailgate lettering sticker kits. So get it painted black to match the blacked out trim and wheels. And if you do not like it, then get some white FORD stickers and try that. I think getting a aluminium FORD in inlay panel is the nicest. But I understand initial cost and shipping being a factor.

What about blacking out the complete tailgate section, like in the pic below (where it is white, go with black) and do a little brighter blue FORD lettering? Dare to be different.

Thanks a lot for your input. I did not know about the stickers. I'll have to keep that in mind. I agree 100% with you about the insert looking the nicest and I'd love to get all of the tailgate trim for my truck (I at least have all of the racetrack trim for the sides), but the insert itself costs $200, then they'll hose me on the shipping because it's "oversize", THEN I have to pay the import tax on the damn thing! I'd be surprised if I could get just the insert for under $350 when all is said and done. The wife just had a great idea that I think I might go with....my truck is light blue with dark blue inside the racetrack. She suggested all light blue tailgate with dark blue lettering. I think that will probably look pretty sharp.

That sound like a great plan. Remember to follow up on this thread with some after paint pics.

I would just trim the letters with pinstripe tape.. Cheap but effective. With a great look also. Sorry don't have any pics I will be doing this to my tailgate when it gets painted.

I think the insert would still be worth the money but if you're going to paint the letters paint them the other color of your two tone. white would be the only other option.

Maybe the insert route would be an viable option is we (FTE folks), or I can be an individualist and say "I" can get you a softly used FORD insert and get it shipped your way and it not cost you so many body parts? Interested?

I wonder if anyone makes polished stainless stick on ones? If the edges bent back that would look really sharp against the dark blue.

Thanks for the offer! I'd have to check shipping and import fees after I had a price on a "softly used" insert. You know....it's already at the paint shop, I guess I'll just go without the insert. Thanks a a lot though. I really appreciate the offer.

No problem I just wanted to make sure you knew you had options. And with you being in Germany that sort of gave you very little easy or cheap options. I am sure the wife's paint scheme will look good. She came up with it so, "Of course it looks good, honey". Lol

It wouldn't let me post a visitor message for some reason. Not sure, if it's because I am new, gets stuck on posting message.

I see you on here offering parts a lot and recently acquired a 79 F-150 myself.

Do you happen to have a good steering wheel and horn button, you would sell and ship?

I have seen your message a couple of days ago. For some reason, there is no reply option.

Thanks for the pic. I was looking for alternatives to the trim and FORD insert as I do not have them and to buy them and have them shipped to Germany would cost me an arm and a leg. I would rather have the trim and insert, but it's not cost effective for me. The Beast is at the paint shop right now and I've decided to go for a completely light blue tailgate with dark blue FORD letters as those are the colors of my truck. I'll be posting pics when I get it back to show everybody how it looks.
