Hi I am new here I joined because im on my second Ford first 1 was a 2001 F-150 with 275000 miles on it. I got crazy and bought a 2018 F-150 2.7L 2x turbo
which leads me to my burning question for those of you who change their own oil or change oil for a living
What is your process to replace the small o-ring on the filter assembly and how long does it take ?
My first go around was like 15 or 20 min and I just didn't want to ruin the filter housing or the o-ring
2nd what was Ford thinking with the oil plug placement really 3 inches between the pan and the tranny and then the sway bar is in between really ?
thanks for having me

Just a few seconds with the right tool. I usually use one of those small screwdrivers that the tool trucks give out sometimes, you know with the magnet on the other end? Small enough to get in and snag the o-ring, but without pointy corners on the flat-head tip that would dig into the channel. Some folks have a little pick tool. Some use inappropriate things. Some eyeball it and if they don't see a problem will put the same o-ring back in.

Better to take your time safely than rush it and end up waiting for a new part to arrive while your crankcase sits empty.

None of us know for sure, so I'll speculate: They were thinking "The fleet guys will love this revolutionary new drain plug and the giant hole it covers, especially the part where it isn't facing straight down so they get covered in oil every time they pull it." . . . and maybe: "That might be hard to get around, but in a trench or on a rack it won't be too terrible"
