2005 Ex Front Driveshaft

Hello all,

After a long hiatus from mechanical issues I find myself in need of a new front driveshaft. And the options are dizzying, so I am reaching out for a little help. I'm seeing them from 160 dollars to 800 dollars for what looks like the same thing.

A couple of years post lift I heard a squeak, it got louder, then I felt a rumble, and I decided new U joints were in order. Mine has over 200000 miles so I decided to show it a little love.

My Excursion is a 2005, 6.0 diesel, 4wd, Eddie Bauer. It has a six inch lift (hanger and block with front x codes and read f250--should I get a longer spline? I've never had an issue). Without bothering all the details. I need to figure out which drive shaft to get for the front. I live way out in the country and going to a shop just a) isn't my style and b) isn't convenient.

Mine is double cardan at the back.

Can someone tell me what length to get? It seems the 05 is an odd duck in so many ways, including the drive shaft, and I have seen lengths from 37 inches to 42.5 inches In parts finders. I can't seem to find the actual OEM part number despite numerous attempts. Compressed, mine is around 38+ inches from the middle of the back u joint cap to the middle of the front, compressing and measuring as well as I can with only two hands.

And yep, I do use my 4wd a few times a week, so I need it.

My VIN is 1FMSU45P15ED45666.

Thanks!

Charlie V

PS Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PPS The details are that I decided to rebuild it myself, but I have a vision impairment, was working in semi-dark, and I messed up the centering ball. And now I'm tired of the whole thing and want a quick fix.

Many thanks.

In the name of expediency, I swallowed my pride and took the drives shaft to a shop.

Inflation has taken a toll. The rebuild was more expensive than the one you posted.

I am in the same boat and finding a fair priced front driveshaft that isn’t made in China is like trying to find an honest Biden voter.

When I picked up the driveshaft, about an hour ago, I made a similar comment about wanting to buy USA parts at the driveshaft shop and they gave me thirty percent off just for saying so.

My local driveshaft shop got bought out or handed down to some meth head and it’s not the same. I need to find someone fairly local. My spline shaft is absolutely seized beyond the point of return so I’m going to need a whole drive shaft.
