Question What's this part?

From my '83 f150 with 351W, 4x4, 4spd. this unit was attached to side of battery bracket, nothing going in or out.

Evap can, carbon canister, charcoal canister. Part of the evaporative emissions system. Line going to it should include the vent line from the fuel tank(s) as well as the line from the carburetor bowl vent. Stores fuel vapors until the systems decides it's time to burn them by cycling them through the intake through a purge valve, either mechanical or electric. It's recommended you keep it hooked up.

I bet you have a gas smell under the hood right? That's because that is disconnected.

To figure how it gets hooked up you should have a vacuum hose routing decal on the radiator support that should show it.
