Hi, i have a 1978 F-150 and my friend has a 1978 F-100 and i just noticed the other day that his reverse lights were not working, so we pulled the tail lights out to see if it was the bulbs and they were both fine, after that we checked the fuses, they were fine also.
I am thinking it might be wiring, but not sure. Any one had this same expereince?
78,
You and your friend must be the coolest dudes in school. But without backup lights, your just a redneck in a beat up truck. The previous post are talking about the neutral safety switch. If the backup lights don't work, there is a likely hood the switch may have been disconnected. The gang plug is high on the firewall just on the passengers side of the air filter. it has four wires. The starter wires are Red with blue stripe. the backup lights are light colored, I think there white? They go down the back of the tranny to the switch, which is mounted on the shiftewr linkage. you'll pay somewhere near $100 for a replacement, so be gentle with it and maybe you can clean it up.
Good Luck,
KingFisher
PS I hope you saw some humor in my opening statement.
