Production by the numbers

It would seem there are a lot more short beds out there then long beds, in the 64-66 years. Could it be that the long beds seen more work in there lifetime and didn’t make it or did Ford actually make more short then long beds.
Trying to search this info out has not resulted in much, so, would anyone know the production numbers of how many of each style, including step side were actually made and perhaps the survival rate?

More short beds than long beds where? If you have extra where you are, you might want to scoop them up and re-distribute them to other parts of the nation and make some big money doing it. lol

I think you are off on that, here in Cali where these trucks do not rust as quickly, and are therefore in relative abundance, I’ll bet I see 15 times more long than short beds. I love the look and proportions of the shortbed, but would never buy one due to smaller practical payload, the same reason that I’d never own a Flareside.

I think i's estimate of 15:1 is probably close. No 250's or bigger were shorties, and very few commercial trucks were swb.

I prefer the proportions and utility of the lwb, but I searched high and low for my shorty so I could close the garage door behind it...

I like the longbed for work use, but the short makes a better hot rod IMO.

I think that most people would just be more likely to restore/mod a short box over a long box given the choice of one of each in the same condition unless it's grandpaw's old long box Syleside. The short trucks have a higher cool factor. Flairsides have a better retro look than the Stylesides.
