I have some pinhole rust issues in the lower part of the door that I need to resolve before I get my '74 painted soon. What should I do (no access to a welder right now)???
Not wanting to discourage you but if you have pin hole now, by the time you get all the rust and weak metal out, your going to have larger holes to deal with. As UK said the only way is with a welder. I would suggest leaving it alone until you can get the resources to properly fix the problem.
I would consider coating the inside of the door with some type of rust converter to slow down the rusting process. Bondo will never hold, as doors collect a lot of water at the bottom.
I had a beater old truck years ago and wanted to stop the rust. So I removed all the rust in the area then put on a rust converter. Next (and as said when you see pinholes it like the iceberg thing, it get bigger and bigger) I made a repair-using fiberglass screen then mat. Then I smoothed it with body filler and painted it. It looked great by the time I was done and it lasted 4 years running around the farm.
It is at least a temporary fix until you can do it right, you do not want to let the rust go unchecked.
