My 2008 E-150 Tan van is starting to have the clear coat discolor....it is kept outside in sunny Fla.... I would like to slow this down with some sort of wax that would slow down the sun's effect....any advice ??
Any good quality wax/sealer will work....3M show car shine is very good quality and been around for years (you can get it at amazon or most auto paint supply stores), ceramic sealers are very good as well... just get commercial grade (not retail off the shelf type products)
Probably too late as the process has started and the paint has absorbed enough UV now as a catalyst. Similar to cataracts. I can tell you how to prevent cataracts but no one can actually employ the method which is wear UV protecting sunglasses from birth. By the age of 17 your eyes have absorbed enough UV catalyst that it if you didn't then all else is moot. Given that all my new cars from purchase have been polished and sealed from the beginning. My 2004 Focus and Le Sabre show no ill effects. I now use Turtle Wax Ice Seal & Shine topped by the improved Spray Wax every 3 months. The improved Spray Wax can hold up for about 10 washes which is three months for me.
What you are trying to protect now is corrosion already not the paint, since there is no longer clear coat. If there's still any thin clear coat left, applying a wax is no longer advisable. Have it repainted or put vinyl wrap over it.

This one I really don't understand, because although to retain paint protection you need at least .05 mils thickness, the top coat (clear) bonding was never "good" causing it to not to bond to the color paint coat..... because the color coat is thin, yes, it is not going to last long, but not applying anything over it is promulgating the deterioration process... which is what he is trying to at least slow down.
