Have an 87 F-250 4x4 with the 460 and Zf 5spd. It runs fine and shifts ok but when I'm slowing down and shifting into 2nd it will grind a bit and You have to get reverse just right or it will grind and/or pop out. The clutch resevoir is full and the fluid is clean. Any ideas?
Bummer. I was afraid of that myself but was hoping for a different (cheaper) opinion. I'm planning some basic mods for the motor and was thinking of having new seals and bearrings put in the tranny at the same time. Maybe I'll have to bump that up a bit. I live in Denver. Anyone know a good tranny shop? Ever heard of Steve's on Santa Fe just north of Dartmouth? Thanks for the replys.

If you are looking for a total rebuild, don' t forget Ebay. Totally worked over ZF for $975, but if it is just a zynchro, buy one for $140 and slap it in yourself.
Yeah, I thought of looking at Ebay and the like but I'm planning on warming up the motor on this truck and lifting it a little (4") It will be a general use truck with a lot of play time in the mtns so I think I should probably go through the whole thing while I have it out. Are there any upgrades I should think about to beef it up a little?
