I converted my '85(see my signature) to the Duraspark II setup when my TFI module died. The carburetor I bought does not have the anti-stall dashpot. Do carburetors for vehicles with automatic transmissions come with this dashpot, or is it an add-on piece?
Next question: The idle speed control solenoid for air conditioned vehicles. Is this an add-on part too? My electronic Feedback carb had the idle speed control motor which is electronically operated. I did not turn in the old carburetor, so I still have all the old parts. Can the idle speed control motor from my old Electronic Feedback carburetor be used with the replacement carburetor? The replacement parts I bought were for a 1983 vehicle. Thanks in advance for your replies.
The idle speed control motor was used with both manual and automatic transmissions with the EEC-IV carb. It's controlled by the computer, so no, it won't work with your Duraspark setup. I don't know for sure what the non-electronic carbs used.
Most of the dashpots that are on automatics, are used to keep the engine from stalling if you blip the throttle while in gear. I would try the truck without it, and see if it is a problem. For the AC, I would go to the junkyard and look for the simple solenoid type idle speed booster. It's just a coil with one connection on it, and this connection is tied in with the power feeding the low pressure switch on the accumulator. When the AC is turned on, it will activate the solenoid. One thing about these though. They do not have enough power to raise the throttle. You have to push down on the pedal. They do have enough power to hold the throttle open though, making the AC work much better.
