It depends on which cylinder you're looking into. It's pretty easy to tell which is which by looking at and following the ports from the intake and exhaust manifolds. I believe you'll find they are on a EI IE EI IE arrangement.

The spark plug is located above and centered between the two valves, so you would see them both equally, if not difficultly. Is this a trick question?

Usually a good clue is to look at the valves' heads. Intakes have a dished-in center, exhausts are flat, BUT some rebuilders use exhaust valves for both these days.

As said you can look at the intake manifold to see which valve is which, but it goes E-I-I-E-E-I-I-E.

Mixer Man, I would have thought you correct but you can only see part of one valve when looking through the sparkplug hole on my stock heads.

Then it would depend on which cylinder you are looking at. Observe which spark plug hole is in vertical alignment with an intake manifold tunnel or an exhaust manifold flange. If it were me I'd just use my borescope.

If you are looking at #1 per your previous posts, you would be seeing the Exhaust valve. Spark plugs aren't centered on 8BA's.

Based on this picture, it appears all of the spark plugs are offset toward the edge of the exhaust valves.
