Ok folks, just got back from a wonderful trip through my favorite salvage yard and stumbled across something that sparked an interest. The is a 65 galaxie FE with the front half of the motor stripped off. My eye was drawn to the vertical mounted oil filter. Is there a reason why these were not offered on the trucks and why should I not go back, not that I will be for other parts anyway... and get that puppy for my truck. I always prefer to keep the oil in the filter than spill it all over the ground come change time.

Thanks!
The oil filter adapter from the 70's 4wd pickups will also fit 2wd trucks, and while not pointing the filter straight down, does point it down and forward at a 45 degree angle.

I have a '74 highboy 4x4, and the filter hangs straight down. Original, too...
I just sold a 45 degree adapter on ebay last week for $34. I found it on a mid 70's 1 ton 2wd. Don't know if the motor was original to the truck though cause it also had a rear sump 4wd oilpan too. The part# was D6TE-6881-AB
