I have a 69 f 100 truck 2wd with a 69 460 out of a lincoln I need to take off the oil pan to inspect my oil pump and bearings to determine what my problems are.Can I remove the oil pan without removing the whole engine? Also I don't have an engine hoist so I will be using a jack to lift the motor.I have already removed the mounts and can't seem to get the engine high enough to pull out the pan.
when I read the first two sentences I was goig to say 'have a look underneath to see it there's room' but you've already gone farther than that. Sometimes jacking the motor up is all it takes if you can get it up high enough before the tranny hits the body. Crossmember removal may also be an option.
It's got to come pretty high to clear the oil pump pick-up and the cradle. It should really be pulled. I wouldn't want to have to replace bearings and things while it's hanging over my head.

You'll have to at least loosen the tranny mounts. If the engine has the rear sump pan that was on 4x4 trucks, then the motor will probably have to be pulled at least forward and up. Some rental places also rent engine hoists, so that can be kept in mind.

I am in the same boat as 2tweak. Wiped 2 lifters real bad, and must remove pan to clean and inspect (at the least.) What crossmember could be removed? (I actually installed 1/2" thick spacers under motor mounts to give enough clearance so that oil pan would not hit front crossmember.) Also, is there any easy way to drain oil without it going all over crossmember, etc.? I thought of making a"funnel" or trough out of that corregated plastic to direct the draining oil. I've investigated remote drains, but if one ever came off, it would wipe out engine. Thank you for your help.
Hey all 2 tweak here.I can't belive this but it looks like I will have to remove the tranny mounts the hood the rad and all the cooling lines just to get the darn oilpan out.AAAHHHHH.
It's been so long since I owned a vehicle... only had this truck for about 4 months and have only been under the engine just recently. I know a lot of older cars have crossmembers under the enging and the removal of them may or may not be helpful in removing an oil pan.
