I have to make up my mind on my new truck soon, very soon. I'm torn between the SC and CC diesels. I have a SC right now and really want the CC, the only sticking point is the snow plow package not being available on the CC. Is there a difference in height on the truck between the 6000# springs and the stock springs on a CC diesel? Does anyone out there plow without the stronger springs?
I can't answer your question specifically about the plow....but I did have a 99 SC and now have a 00 CC, both diesel. I enjoyed both trucks, but NOTHING compares to the added room and comfort of riding passengers with the Crew Cab...I can't imagine having to go back to the SC now. I'm sure somebody else will be able to help you with the specifics of the plow. good luck.
Is the truck used as a regular plow truck? Ie commercially or on a regular basis. What percentage of the trucks function will be plowing?
Once you've had a CC, you can nver go back to a SC, the CC is THE way to go.
If plowing is a sideline, say 10% or less of your driving, something you won't do that much of, I'd go ahead and get the CC. You'll really enjoy it the other 90% of the time.
As a side note, I believe the plow package is available on the CC if you go V10.
I just traded in my '01 CC for an '04 SC that's not here yet. If you can handle the length of the CC I'd go for it. I loved mine, the back seat is bigger then any other one out there (aside from the X). I regularly carried six people in my truck to baseball games, out to dinner, etc. and that's with the captain's chairs. Four of us took it to Florida every year and we drove like kings, more room then you'll ever get in a 737...
I only gave up my CC for a SC for work. I needed the 8' bed and the back seat wouldn't see any more passengers so the CC was out. I've got an Explorer for passengers now.
To clear the record, with the 6.0 you can't get a plow package on the 158" wb but you can on the short (142"?) bed. You can't get the plow package with any CC combination and the 6.0. I'm not sure about the V10 options. Are you a gambling man? I'd put the plow on anything that comes off the lot. These trucks are worlds stronger then the stuff you could get 20 years ago and they plowed with them.
To put the length in perspective, you can't park the CC and the short bed combo at ANY Wallmart or mall parking lot. That in mind the extra 16" will simply follow you to the outfield parking spaces and you'll never know it was there. I think it's the extra $1600 (or whatever it costs this year) that's the difference.
I would go with the CC since your asking our opinions. The difference in space is huge! I have the CC LB with the V-10 and I drive it as a daily driver 100 miles a day to work. Parking it is actually very easy as long as your backing with mirror skills are there. My family would rather travel in the CC as opposed to the POS Explorer I have.
It was already mentioned but if your only plowing your own driveway and it's not a very technical job, plowing with the CC wouldn't pose a problem. Yes it's long but that where driving/plowing skills come in.
I know it's always the battle but if you don't tow heavy and need the diesel power the V-10 is a very viable option. I get about 13.5 MPG driving with my foot into it.
Did I mention already the huge difference in space with the CC? The SC doesn't compare if your looking for real passenger space.
Good luck with your dilemma.
Thank you guys, I was pretty sure about the CC, but your reply's strengthned my decision. This site is ausome. I plow quite a bit, but the truck is mostly used for parking lots and to check on driveways after my tractors go out. Although now some of you have me thinking about the V-10 now, so I could go with the snow package. My plow guy says the front end will be really low with the diesel and weaker springs. Tough decisions, but at least I know I'm going with a super duty again! And that part makes me smile..
Everyone is right about the comfort of the CC. Last June I went to Mich. from southern Missouri with four women; one in the front, three in the back. All of them said the trip was very comfortable and were very happy we did not take our sedan. Besides, with a bed cover, we had a larrrge trunk for luggage with no packing. Just slide everything in with a bungee cord attached (for pulling stuff out) and go.
As far as parking, as long as the parking is angled parking, I have no trouble. I park in regular spots at Wal Mart all the time. If the parking is straight in, it is a big problem.
I love the CC and would not want anything smaller. Heck, when my wife wants to hit me for something, she cannot reach without taking her seat belt off. A very important safety feature of the Super Duty.
parking a crew is a no brainer..... sorry guys, but i can back into ANY space that is wide enough for the truck.... i will admit, without the TT mirrors, i'd be sol on it as i would not be able to see where i was going.
the trick is... back into the spot
almost 30k miles on my crew and i have never hit anything while parking.
hate to disagree with the majority but I have had a CC and went back to a SC. I do agree that the backing thing is more a matter of just getting used to it. But I just kind of prefere the looks of a SC. The CC seems to be a little bulky looking. Oh well, everybody has an opinion..right..
some like vanilla, some like chocolate.... it is nice to have a choice isn't it..... even though a choice sometimes means you have to choose between one or the other of two or more that you like. (unless you win the lottery!!)
From: I'm lost somewhere in NJ -- can someone please find me?!?!?!?
I have the SC and am happy with it. Although I should mention that I'm happy because I don't sit in the back! The back seat is really not condusive to long trips for full sized adults. But it's fine for short hops and packing gear.
For me, the bed length was important, and something had to give -- that something was the size of the back seat.
