I have a 2017 F250. Yesterday I hooked up to one of my trailers, all the lights worked. I noticed just before dark when I opened the truck door that the running lights didn’t come on. I checked the connection, the turn signal and brake lights work but still no running lights. Today I hooked up to another and again turn, brake and electric brakes work but no running lights. I checked the fuses under hood, 42 and 65 if I remember correct, and both appear good but I haven’t had a chance to do a continuity test on them yet.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start looking?
This is going to sound crazy but this happened to my truck one of the first times I hooked it to my new gooseneck. LOL. I tried over and over , plugged, unpolugged, put dilectic grease on the plug etc... then it HIT ME....... I had my truck lights on " Auto" !!!! All the way over to the right on the dial. It was DAYLIGHT out so of course the lights were NOT on!!! As soon as I turned the dial to OFF and up one to turn them on manually, all the lights worked on truck and trailer!!!! I felt totally dumb. Not sure this is your issue.

This isn't crazy at all. Fords seem to work this way. Found out the same way as you--Auto isn't going to turn them on (I'm 99% sure the RAM I just came from was different). Anyway, put the dial in the 3rd position, the ON position, and the lights should hopefully come on.

lol, that wasn’t my problem but I did check that.
I just dug into things a little further and found another fuse, number 99 it’s a 30 amp at the very back of the fuse block. It was blown, no idea why. I replaced the fuse, hooked up to another trailer and all seems to be good now.

Exactly what happened on my truck. There was a dead short on my trailer, from new. And it was a 2015 trailer that I bought in 2019. Wasn't it fun finding that little tiny 30A fuse! Local parts stores don't carry them.
I have found that if you disconnect the trailer lights WITH the truck lights ON, the fuse will blow most of the time. I always turn my lights off before disconnecting trailer.

My truck headlights are always on auto. Every single day when I start the truck, the running lights on the trailer come on no matter whether it's day or night. They remain on as long as the truck is running.
This is only the running lights on the trailer fenders. Same thing happens on at least 2 of my trailers, I'm not sure about the other 3. I don't recall this happening when I had a 2017 but it happens with my 2019 every day.

so interesting! My 19 does NOT do that. Lol. Mine is on auto all the time to and trailer lights come on only when truck lights do. Unless I put them on manually.

Funny how some of these trucks seem to have their own little idiosyncrasies. As stated, my 2017 did not do this but the '19 does. I actually kind of like it because when I look in the mirror it reminds me that I did indeed plug the trailer in!
