Painting Stripes

I want to paint my truck (red) and I want to add stripes (black). I will be using BC/CC.
If I paint the Red how long do I have to wait before masking and painting the Black (over the red).
Will I have a problem with the delay between painting the color and the clearcoat.

What happens if I paint the red and clearcoat it, can I then paint the black with more clearcoat over top?
Thanks...Paul

Paul I have been looking into this same type of think but on a motorcycle.
A lot depends on the type of paint. The paint that I am looking at is from House of Kolor and is a urethane enamel candy. They say the paint bleeds so you need to coat it with clear before you put on graphics.

So you lay the red down and then lay down one coat of clear. Let that dry overnight then scuff sand and lay down the stripe. Then clear the whole thing with 3 coats. Then start the wet sanding and buffing process.

One thing that I was told was to make sure all the paint is compatible or it will lift over time so when you buy the paint explain what you want to do and they will give you the right stuff.

I tell you I have spoken with tons of custom painter and been to hundreds of web sites gathering info. With the price of the paint I want to use a mistake is expensive.

Thanks, that make sense. I am using all the same brand of paint, nothing too special or too expensive.
