Good morning everyone!
My new project is a 1978 F100 SWB ..... This truck was BUBBA-ed up a bit. I am trying to figure out how to UNDO all the mess.
Here is my first question among many to follow (I'm sure).
This truck was ORIGINALLY an automatic transmission truck. The PO bubba-ed in a 3 speed transmission and cut up the floor and then put in one of those STUPID floor shifters.
Here is a pic of the 3 speed tranny he put in......
The drive shaft was only engaged into the rear housing of the transmission about 2" as shown by this picture of the yoke......
NOW...... I have a good transmission that came out of my LWB parts truck. I drove it and the transmission was very smooth and solid.
BUT.... here is my confusion...... the tail of this transmission is about 6" or so LONGER than the one BUBBA put in my SWB truck.
Here is a few pics of the long tail tranny which came from my LWB parts truck......
The yoke was engaged over half way into this transmission which looks right..........
SO..... HERE IS THE QUESTION.....which transmission would be correct to use in a SWB truck?
With the long tail on the last transmission shown above, WILL IT CREATE a bad angle for the drive shaft?
I just don't have any idea why one transmission has a short tail and the other has a long tail......
(CONFUSED)

RAB-AG - D5TR-LA = Ford type 3.03 3 speed manual all synchromesh transmission.
1975/79 F100/150 2WD 300/302 with 116" wheelbase (short bed).
Trying to determine a transmission for a 1973 f100. I have a 3 speed manual. Might be looking to replace or rebuild.
The transmission tag reads
RAB-L2
EEBD0010 sure
I've attached a pic.
Any help on what this tag means? Especially the EEBD0010 portion. Pretty certain the RAB-L2 means a 1973 or 1974 f100.
rusty d shackleford your best bet is to start a completely new thread of your very own. You tagged in on a some what older thread and you might not get many folks to see your need for help.
Just click on the goldish yellow + New Thread box, in the top L/H side of the 73-79 forum list and put in the title something short and to get peoples attention and let them know what you need. Like "Help Id'ing this transmission".
Then post up your info you have in the message part and set back and let it simmer.
